What A Heading Structure Is And Why Google Cares About It
What headings are
Headings are the structured titles within a page — H1, H2, H3, and so on. The H1 is the main page title. H2s are major section headings. H3s are sub-sections under those. Their SEO value comes from the underlying HTML tag, not visual styling.
Why it matters
Google uses your heading structure to understand what a page is about and how it's organised. A clear hierarchy makes it much easier for Google to read and index your content accurately. It also helps with featured snippets and AI search results.
Common heading mistakes we fix
- Multiple H1s: Every page should have exactly one H1.
- Headings for styling only: Making text bold and calling it an H3 just because it looks nice.
- Skipping levels: Going from H1 straight to H4 without H2s and H3s in between.
- No keywords in headings: Your H1 in particular should include your primary keyword naturally.
