Why Your Mobile And Desktop Site Can Behave Differently For SEO
Google indexes mobile first
Since 2019, Google has used mobile-first indexing for all new websites. This means Google primarily uses the mobile version of your site to determine how it ranks. If your mobile site is missing content, has different headings, or loads more slowly than desktop, that's what Google is primarily evaluating.
Why your menus might differ
Mobile and desktop navigation often work differently. Desktop sites use mega-menus or hover dropdowns. Mobile sites use hamburger menus with collapsible sections. The pages in each menu may be structured differently — meaning the link structure Google sees can vary between devices.
This is particularly relevant for Wix sites where mobile and desktop layouts are configured separately. A page visible in the desktop menu but not the mobile menu may receive fewer internal links from the mobile version.
What we check
During our technical audit, we compare mobile and desktop versions of key pages to make sure content, headings, and navigation are consistent.
